While we were traveling out West this summer for 2 months doing something called a “surrender experiment” by allowing life to guide us, I pitched my story to Paprika Southern Magazine and it was accepted! The twist — I’d write my own story.
For years, I’ve worked on the beauty end as a contributor painting faces for their covers and fashion features. I also have the privilege of interviewing notable and women to share their stories and inner beauty while I get them ready for a portrait that will accompany their feature.
After the first interview was such a success, I found the confidence boost needed to throw my name in the hat. I’ve done a lot of scary things in my life that have required me to be brave, and this was a big one.
Co-editors, Bevin Jalbert and Siobhan Egan, wanted me to tell the story of moving to Savannah from Florida to start my beauty career with Dollface by Jules and how that road lead me to taking a leap of faith with Jules Loves Me.
What they didn’t know is that there was wayyyy more to that story than they knew … but I knew it was time to finally share the whole truth. The one that included hating my life, a terminal diagnosis, meeting Josh, traveling to India for back surgery, oh and the other stuff they wanted me to write about too. No pressure.
The piece, and my word count, flowed pretty easily. But in the magazine world, every word counts because space = money. After making as many edits as I could, I sent my story in and waited. Thankfully they were moved by my honesty and decided to keep every word!

FUN FACT: This is my actually my 2nd published piece, the 1st was a poem I wrote in 5th grade called “Seasons” that was included in an anthology. My big brother had to remind me 🙂
Can’t wait to hear what you think!
All my love,
Jules
